I Spit on Eli Roth

Once upon a time 3 female filmmakers were lamenting the current state of the male-dominated horror genre over cosmopolitans at the annual Genghis Con convention when inspiration, propelled by a good vodka buzz, struck…

“Hey, why don’t we make a feminist horror film?” they mused.

The three in question were Paula Haifley (www.heyflea.com), Jane Rose (www.jane-rose.com) and Devi Snively (www.deviantpictures.com) who all had films screening at the annual Pretty-Scary Women in Horror Film Festival run by Heidi Martinuzzi (www.pretty-scary.net) and Amy Lynn Best (www.happycloudspictures.net)

Nursing a hangover on the ride home from Pittsburgh, Devi whipped up a script. A few months later, she returned to the Steel City to shoot the 5-minute short with fellow horror filmmakers Jane and Amy and the special FX by Midian Crosby (http://www.monstersfrommidian.com).

For the record, it’s not like we hate Eli Roth or anything. We hear he’s actually a nice guy. But it seems like he could develop his scripts a bit more and “chickvision” – a totally asenine feature on the Cabin Fever DVD, has really got to go.

The bigger statement we want to make is simply that the horror genre kicks ass when its producers do a good job with it. We’ll forgive low budgets and cheesy effects (hell, we embrace them), but don’t skimp on story and subtext.

We’re far too broke, to submit this one to the fests, but I Spit on Eli Roth did premiere at the Dragon*Con Film Festival (link to D*C) opening up for a thoughtful panel discussion on torture porn. Now we want to give it a life and spread its message of horror love right here online We hope you enjoy!

Meat is Murder

Synopsis: So like this mysterious meatloaf in the icebox is like killing people maybe…Bummer.

Meat is Murder takes a post-modern satirical perspective of the deluge of unnatural, processed foods and hyper-consumerism in our society. Combining elements of Ionescoe’s absurdist brand of existentialism and a contemporary Brechtian approach to storytelling (replacing the traditional chorus with a TV commercial jingle), Meat is Murder melds pop culture with social commentary and humorous pretension. Funded in part by the Indiana Arts Grant.

Sadly, we’re too broke to enter this one into more fests, but expect to see it soon as a DVD extra on our upcoming feature trippin’ (link to trippinthemovie.com)

Teenage Bikini Vampire

We had so much fun making the short, that Devi has written feature-length version which has already placed as a first round winner in the 20/20 screenplay competition, a quarter-finalist in the Austin Heart of Film screenplay competition, a finalist in the Red Inkworks Screenplay Competition, an honorable mention in the A Feeding Frenzy Screenplay Competition and a finalist in the Shriekfest screenplay competition. Sadly, TBV will require far too big a budget for us to produce, but if you know anybody who’s interested, please send them our way. It would make a great live action film in the vein of The Addams Family or Scooby-Doo, or it would also work well as an animated feature.

Trippin’

In 2005, six friends road-tripped to a remote cabin in the woods with deadly results. A year later, the sole survivor met directrix Devi Snively in a bar and offered the rights to his story for a case of beer and a role in the movie. trippin’ is that movie.

So prepare yourself for a little sex, a little gore, and some good and bad times with some good and bad buds. “It’s The Big Chill for a Kevin Smith generation with a puppet!”
